In the Shadows©

Come and sit for a while in the Shadows of life.

Let me be your traveling companion in the place

where strange things take shape and come to light.

It is there where you will learn how to see in the dark.

It is in the Shadows where we learn what it means

to take the log out of our own eye before trying to take it out of another’s.

Sort of like the oxygen mask when flying. You must put yours on first,

or no one will survive to tell the tale for those who follow.

In the Shadows we learn how to fact check our own lies,

where memory stacked upon memory blurs the realities of an earlier time.

Learn to do your forty days in the desert and return a more humbled person

who has eyes that see and ears that hear.

Then and only then will you be of some use.

then and only then will you know that you don’t know

that you don’t know what you don’t know about yourself.

It’s the only way to get from here to there.

Fresh eyes made wide with dismay

Is the price we pay to be set free.

Then where there was two

there will be three . . .

with the forth not far behind.
