Why Depth Psychology?
Updated: Aug 22
In the 1990s, while interning in a mental health center in Austin, Texas, my personal physician introduced me to C.G. Jung through his Answer to Job. He would later become my mentor in using autoimmune disease as an initiation into what Jung termed conscious individuation.
Until then my only experience of the power of the unconscious had been through the Pentecostal and Charismatic churches of the Gulf South, the spiritual teachers, and gurus of the New Age, and finally, the internship where I was trained how to recognize psychopathology in my patients.
Dr. Hollis, the creator of this brief video, and the former executive director of the Houston Jung Center describes the main tenets of depth psychology. It is used with permission.
